U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday signed two memorandums of understanding on the earthquake recovery in Haiti with Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the high-level UN meeting on the Millennium Development Goals, which opened here Monday at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Clinton said after the signing that one memorandum is designed to establish an industrial park and a garment manufacturing operation in Haiti with the potential to create more than 10,000 permanent jobs.
The other one is aimed to help rebuild the University Hospital of Haiti which is the central public hospital for Port-au-Prince and the country's main teaching hospital.
On Jan. 12, a powerful earthquake hit Haiti, resulting in more than 220,000 deaths. It has dealt a severe blow to the country's already shaky economy and infrastructure.
